Persephone is a Goddess of duality. Hades, King of the Underworld saw beautiful Persephone as a young woman amongst her beloved Spring flowers and fell in love with her immediately. As Lord of Darkness, he was taken with her light and joy. He was so in love he took her back with him to the Underworld to rule as his Queen. Her mother Demeter was beside herself with despair. Zeus intervened and spoke with Hades to return Persephone back to her mother and to the Earth above. a compromise was reached. It was decided that she would spend half her year below ruling as the Queen of the Underworld, and half her year as Goddess of Spring and rebirth to seed the Earth bringing life back to the Earth by her mothers side. But each year when Persephone ventured back down into the darkness, Demeter mourned. During her time of grief, a time of lifelessness overtook the Earth and Winter covered the land until Persephone returned once more.

Persephone brings us some very powerful energy to work with in our lives. With her we see the endless cycle of death and rebirth, the changing of the seasons and the ability for beginnings, renewal and transformation no matter how dark things may be. She teaches us compromise as she transitions back and forth between the land of the living and the dead taking on different roles as Queen of the Underworld, Goddess of Rebirth and Maiden of Possibility.

She is the planter of seeds and bringer of fertility to the Earth. She teaches us to look towards our intentions and to plant what we wish to grow. Spring is a time of looking towards the beginnings that we are longing to create in the months ahead. Her energy tells us to decide, to choose what we wish to focus our energy on as this is what will manifest. She embodies the maiden, where all things are possible, much like the energy of Spring where hope returns after a long Winter. She is connected to intuition, dreams, childhood and playfulness. She tells us to look towards what inspires us and to follow what calls to our heart.
